 Reflection Task 2/a

  Hi everybody!

I want to mention about the media's effects on women's body imagine and beauty. I choose this topic because it is an really important issue not only for me but also society. Today, many parents complain about their adolecent girls who are mostly affected demographic. Many of them are exposed to standards of beauty in a verly early age thanks to 'Barbie dolls'. Barbie dolls lead to lower self-esteem and a greater desire for a thinner body shape. Those are going on variety of diets because they believe what you weigh determines your worth; then, they want to become a Barbie's sizes. It leads to many kind of diseases.  It is a parent’s job to censor the toys they allow their young children to play with in order to protect them from psychological and physically damaging Barbie dolls and other toys similar.

I think another offenders are magazines. In many women magazines, there are a lot of ads or articles which mention cosmetics, slimming drugs, diets, beauty centers and plastic surgery. In every pages you can see ads such as  ‘ How can you become a stylish woman?’,  ‘ 1O golden rules to lose weight’,  ‘Miracles of plastic surgery’ etc. With this way, dressing style, shape and lifestyle, our sense of beauty being imposed on us by them. Many women believe that  ‘Beauty=Hollywood Stars’.  I think, today’s beauty is too artificial and industrial beauty. Forcing everyone to be one type person is just a persecution.

I mean there is a sense of beauty  standardized by media. I see young girls all looks alike in everywhere. Highlighted long hair, proportionate nose ...  Clothing, bags transport formats, all the same,  even their  body language. Actually, they all are aware of that,  but  they  internalize it so much that they do not see a strangeness. I can understand  that which girl is from which university, because they have a certain typology. In short, beauty imposition is a curse on women.

There is a short documentary on the concept of "beauty" and what the media does to influence girls' perception of it.
